Tuff Stuff

Today I took Brock to the doctor's. He was overdue for some shots, and he's had a thing growing on his face pretty rapidly. I thought it was a wart, my mom thought it was maybe a mole. The doctor's verdict: a wart. We decided to basically cut it off while there. And let me tell you, Brock is a tough cookie. Three nurses had to hold him down and attempt to keep him still enough so the doctor wouldn't bludgeon his face while trying to remove said wart. He got it off, but not without some serious wrestling and sweating on Brock's part. Then the poor kid still had to get one shot in his leg after he thought it was all over. I'm just glad we didn't take Jakob-my cute neighbor watched him for us-thanks a ton, Arin! The last time Jakob went to the doctor's he got seven shots. Had he watched Brock through this ordeal, I think he would have sworn off doctors for life and thought we were the meanest parents in the whole world. Now for the hard part for me-keeping a 3-year-old's face clean!

Ooooohhhh poor kid. I had that done as a kid... on the face to. Not fun.

So it was a wart, huh? Brock has my sympathy, from one warty person to another. :) I just barely looked at my kids' immunization cards today, and Sadie needs one shot, and Dylan needs, like, four, in preparation for kindergarten. That will be a barrel of laughs.

Poor kid! That is a difficult thing as a parent. At least they didn't have you help hold him down! I think he would have not liked you forever!

Poor Brock... I bet that it was not fun for anyone involved. When I was in nursing school...I had to be on the other side of that whole thing. It wasn't fun at all. For two days every semester we had to volunteer at a health day thing where we sat and gave kids shots and poked their fingers to test for blood sugar and hemoglobin for health screens. I have never felt so evil and so hated in my whole life. Those kids just look at you with terror filled eyes. And they are strong little buggars. We had to really wrestle them and hold them down. And they get this pitiful look of absolute betrayal at their parents. And they cry and cry. And there is just nothing that you can do or say to convince them that you are actually trying to help them. They just think that you are mean and out to get them in the worst possible way. It was very traumatic for me. Which is part of the reason that I have sworn off pediatric nursing. Plus I can't deal with overprotective parents. Yeah, they are like pageant moms on crack. And kind of like mother bears protecting their young. It is just dangerous. Totally not worth the lousy salary that I make...
