Cut!

So. I've been making an effort to save money recently, mostly in the food aspect. Some weeks I do great, like this last grocery trip. I bought two weeks' worth of groceries (I may have to go back for milk, but otherwise good to go) and came in $25 under budget. Woo hoo! Other weeks...well, we won't go into details. "Dismal" is a good description.

What I would like, my dear friends, is some meal ideas of the dinner variety. Cheap. Easy. Hey, I'll even start:

Shepherd's Pie
1 lb. ground burger, browned
1 can cut green beans, drained, or 1 can corn, drained
1 can tomato soup
salt and pepper, to taste
4 servings of instant mashed potatoes

Combine the burger, green beans/corn, soup, and salt and pepper in a casserole dish. Prepare the potatoes; scoop and spread on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

See? Easy: a dump together dish. Cheap: overall, the cost is probably around $4-5. And nutritious to boot. So if you would be so kind, could you please share some ideas with me? And if you don't want to type out the full recipe in a comment, just maybe tell me what you make to point me in the right direction, and I can look up recipes online or in my small assortment of cookbooks.

I have to confess I have never really tried any of the recipes but I have looked at this several times wishing I could. Here is the link

I like to minimize how much I cook and so I like to cook turkey's,, then I seal up the meat in my magic vac and use it for pot pie, "turkey" noodle soup, and turkey sandwiches and casseroles... that way I use it up fast and I don't have to cook a lot. I like roast and use it for french dip, roast beef sandwiches, and in soups ... nobody says beef stew has to be beef chunks!!!!!

Tator-Tot Caserol

In a large frying pan combine:

Brown about 1 pound of hamberger
Add 1 can of Cream-O-Chicken Soup
Stir in about 1/2 cup of milk (or to taste)
Add Tator-Tot's to taste
and sprinkle on shredded cheese (also to taste)

Cook with lid on Frying pan until the Tator-Tots are soft (about 15-20 minutes) usually when the cheese has melted it's probably done or close to it.

I make this all the time (especially if it's my turn to cook) and believe it or not I've committed it to memory. We had this when we were growing up as kids. It's way easy.

those are two of my favorite meals ever.
Try this:
"Not-sagna"
-1lb ground beef
-Pasta sauce (make your own with canned tomatoes, garlic basil etc.) or use a bottle.
-curly 'mini' lasagna noodles
ricotta cheese
fresh basil (optional)
shredded mozzarella (spell?)

Cook noodles.
Brown ground beef. Add sauce.
In a large bowl (serving bowl) take a ladle of the hot pasta water and mix with at least a cup of ricotta (I like a lot of ricotta but my husband doesn't like much so use how ever much you like) and mix until melty and warm. Mix in half of the sauce, noodles and top with remaining sauce, chopped basil and shredded cheese. Viola! Not-sagna in no time!
Serve with green salad and garlic bread. yummy. I'm hungry....

I will have to look through my stuff and get back to you. You may think that I always cook hard stuff, but not always, my little lady. I'll e-mail a couple to you.
